I acknowledge that I currently exist on the Haldimand Tract, land promised to the Haudenosaunee of the Six Nations of the Grand River in 1784. This territory is the traditional home of the Attawandaron (Neutral), Anishinaabe, and Haudenosaunee peoples. I recognize that the gap between policy, acknowledgement, and the meaningful act and movement towards land sovereignty remains vast. As a white-passing, mixed-race Anishinaabe-Metis-German person who is not in their home territory, I am striving to understand and undo power differentials while acknowledging my privilege. In order to move alongside my ancestors, and all my relatives, I ask for permission to be a guest on these lands, I work towards being a steward to and with the land, and to create mutual relationships with all my relations. I am working towards finding ways to balance my own survival alongside actively making meaningful contributions to the rightful and ancestral stewards of this land. Miigwetch, miigwetch, miigwetch!
